Mike Walker.

Salford born and bred, Mike has been a pillar of the Manchester music scene since a young age, playing in several well-established Jazz and fusion groups throughout the eighties and nineties, including his own bands, ‘River People’, ‘Some other country,’ ‘The Mike Walker Quartet’ and ‘Brazil Nuts’, within which Mike collaborated with friend and future Jazz Summer School colleague, Iain Dixon! Throughout his career, Mike has performed with some of the most well-respected jazz musicians in the world, including Kenny Wheeler, Tommy Smith, Vince Mendoza, Bill Frisell and many more! In 2008, Mike released his debut album ‘Madhouse and the Whole Thing There’ which received wide critical acclaim. He was also commissioned to write a piece for Manchester Jazz Festival, which featured a 22-piece orchestra and Jazz quintet. Nowadays, Mike enjoys playing in bands such as ‘The Printmakers’ and ‘The Impossible Gentlemen’, which he co-leads, as well as running a number of guitar/ improvisation schools across the UK and Europe. We are very excited to have him as one of our wonderful tutors at this year’s Jazz Summer School!
